Swept from the Sea. Directed by: Beeban Kidron

Swept from the Sea. A feature film drama directed by Beeban Kidron. It stars Vincent Perez, Rachel Weisz and Ian McKellen. Based on the short story "Amy Foster" by Joseph Conrad. Set in 1888 the film is about a doomed love affair between country girl (Weisz), and Ukrainian peasant (Perez) who is shipwrecked on his way to America and 'swept from the sea' - onto a Cornish beach.

The title itself went through various changes and was originally to be called: 'Amy Foster'. It was also proposed that the main title should animate from the sea. After a series of tests we dropped this concept and stayed with our typographic 'style' in keeping with the period. Plain and unadorned - yet to the point.

Director Beeban Kidron I found to be very warm and funny. Beeban also had a wicked sense of homour. We both spent a lot of time together meticulously placing each of the cast and technical credits over the live action.
